Our Groups Organisers do a fantastic job that isn't always appreciated as much as it should be. They spend hours thinking of new walks and new events then planning all the details so that members can just sign up and enjoy them. Yet, no matter how much planning they do or how much detail they include in the description, once it is published, the questions start......
Are you a Ramblers walk leader or a Group or Area Officer? Do you volunteer in some other capacity for the Ramblers? If so, make sure that your personal information held by Ramblers is up-to-date. See this recent circular for details.
Last month, members from several Nottinghamshire Ramblers Groups and their friends came together to walk the Isle of Wight Coastal Path. The walk was divided into five sections in such a way that it could be walked using the islands public bus services. The group arrived on a Saturday, walked Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday then had Wednesday as a rest day. The walk was completed on Thursday and Friday before returning on the Saturday.
From a base in Newport on the island, the group were able to use buses to get to the start and back from the end of each day's walk. The walk is about 70 miles in length and the addition of walks to and from bus stops at the start and finish of each day made the overall distance 80 miles. Walk leader, Keith Wallace, kept a photo record of the walk and added a narrative to each photo. Click on the first photo then scroll through them in turn.
